April 29 (Renewables Now) – UK-based Zenobe Energy Ltd has reached financial close and started construction of its 50-MW/100-MWh battery project in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire.
This will be the first battery to connect directly to the transmission system in Scotland and the country’s largest so far, the electric vehicle (EV) fleet and battery storage company said on Thursday.
Due to start operations by the end of 2022, the battery will be used as part of National Grid ESO’s Constraints Management pathfinder project, which seeks to secure power supply for Glasgow and the surrounding region. It is expected to allow 640 GWh more renewable generation to travel from north to south over the next 15 years.
Zenobe is partnering with Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which is the route to market provider, Fluence Energy Inc (NASDAQ:FLNC) as the battery energy storage system supplier, and H&MV as the principal designer and contractor. Santander UK is the funding partner.
