Rhode Island community bank The Washington Trust Company on Wednesday said it has provided a “significant commercial loan” to New York-based WindServe Marine LLC that will allow it to build three new crew transfer vessels (CTVs) for the offshore wind industry.

The vessels were commissioned by Danish offshore wind developer Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED).

Offshore wind support services company WindServe Marine is a part of the Reinauer Group. The three 88-foot (26.8-metre) CTVs will be built by WindServe’s affiliate shipyard Senesco Marine in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. They are expected to be completed in the summer of 2023.

The new vessels will at first support the design efforts of 12 new turbines at the Southfork Wind project off the coast of Long Island, says the announcement. Following installation of the turbines, the fleet’s utility will be broadened to service and maintenance to similar wind projects including the 704-MW Revolution Wind, which will supply power to Rhode Island and Connecticut, and the 924-MW Sunrise Wind, which will power New York.
