France’s Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) has sealed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with British consumer co-operative Co-op for the output of its 34-MW Eastgate solar project in Northern England.
The Paris-based renewable power producer will supply green power to its client’s facilities, including food stores, distribution centres and funeralcare homes across the UK, it said on Thursday. The contract will run for 15 years.

Co-op will buy the entire output of the Eastgate solar park, which will be built near Scarborough, in North Yorkshire, and is planned to go live in 2025. Early construction works have already been initiated, Voltalia said.
To be equipped with 62,500 photovoltaic (PV) panels, the solar farm is expected to generate around 34,000 MWh of electricity annually, equal to the consumption of 12,500 British homes. These volumes will cover up to 7.5 % of Co-op’s total electricity needs per year, powering over 170 food stores and 500 funeralcare homes.
The PPA is aligned with Co-op’s goal of achieving net zero operation by 2035.
