October 21 (Renewables Now) – Danish decarbonisation technology supplier Topsoe this week said it has been selected as technology provider for the first biorefinery in Brazil for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Brasil BioFuels plans to build the biorefinery in Manaus. The facility will produce SAF and second-generation biofuel, hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). Topsoe will deliver its Hydroflex and H2bridge technologies, which will allow the facility to produce the fuels, while recycling gases and liquids from the process to produce hydrogen for use in the biorefinery’s operations.

The biofuel plant will have a capacity of 500 kilo tones per year, with production expected to begin in 2025.

“We are thrilled to be selected as technology provider by Brasil BioFuels for their ambitious plans of introducing SAF and second generation biofuels to the Brazilian market,” said Gustavo Cienfuegos, managing director at Topsoe, Latin America.
