Swedish industrial start-up H2 Green Steel said on Thursday it has secured a full environmental permit for its first green steel plant, which is being built just outside Boden, northern Sweden.
The permit was granted by the Land and Environmental Court in Umea.

The company secured a permissibility permit about a year ago, which enabled the start of construction. The full permit allows the company to also start operations at the plant.
The facility will produce green steel, green iron and green hydrogen, with the permit covering annual production of 5 million tonnes of green steel. H2 Green Steel said that the project is classified as class A operations in the Environmental code and highlighted that the process, from submitting the application to full permit, has taken less than 18 months.
“This is also a big day for Sweden where we at the company, together with all the other parties involved, have shown that it truly is possible to have a speedy process also in complex permit matters in Sweden,” said chief executive Henrik Henriksson.
It was recently announced that H2 Green Steel will be relying on more than 700 MW of alkaline electrolysers provided by Thyssenkrupp Nucera AG & Co KGaA for its maiden project.
