Norwegian renewables and hydrogen company Aker Horizons ASA (OSE:AKH) said today that power system operator Statnett has allocated a total of 370 MW of grid capacity to it for two green ammonia projects in the northern part of the country.
The larger portion (250 MW) has been allocated for a project under development in Kvandal, outside Narvik, that is a partnership between Aker Horizons and Statkraft. The so-called Narvik Green Ammonia project is designed to produce up to 1,000 tonnes of green ammonia. It is expected to reach final investment decision in 2025 and to begin commercial operations in 2028.

“This award adds a key component in realising the project, strengthening the opportunity to establish Kvandal and Narvik as a hub for new green industry in the region,” commented Kristoffer Dahlberg, chief financial officer in Aker Horizons Asset Development.
The remaining 120 MW of grid capacity has been allocated for a project in Berlevag and will be available once the new 420-kV line to Seidafjellet is finalised.
