Norway’s Statkraft has acquired a wind and a solar power project in Peru, adding a total of 222 MW to its strictly hydro generation portfolio in the country.
The energy group said via local unit Statkraft Peru that it had bought all shares in the companies that hold the projects. The price was not disclosed.
The entity GR Vale SAC is the owner of the 150-MW Lupi solar farm project located in the town of Carumas, the Moquegua department. According to Statkraft, the solar radiation at the site is slightly lower than that of the Atacama Desert in Chile.
The Emma wind project in the department of Piura was acquired with its owner, the company GR Bayovar SAC. Emma will have 72 MW of capacity in the first stage, and an additional 408 MW in the second. The second stage will create a hybrid of wind and solar, becoming the first such power plant in Peru, Statkraft said.
At present, studies and permits for the projects are being finalised. The company expects to be able to launch construction in 2024-2025.
Statkraft Peru currently operates 450 MW of hydroelectric capacity, a portfolio that the new projects will diversify and support during dry season and sunny days, the company added.
