SSE Renewables, a unit of UK utility SSE plc (LON:SSE), said today that all seven turbines have been installed at the 30.1-MW Lenalea wind farm in County Donegal, Ireland, with the project on track to start commercial operation later this year.
Lenalea is a joint venture between SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland, representing a joint investment of over EUR 40 million (USD 44m) by the partners. Its first turbine was erected in June and the final one on August 9. The wind farm features Vestas V117-4.2 MW turbines with a rated capacity of 4.3 MW. The Danish manufacturer was responsible for their supply and installation.
Concurrently, EirGrid has completed commissioning and energisation of Lenalea’s 110kV loop in substation. The facility is as a result now connected to the grid, enabling the start of the commissioning of the turbines. The machines will be commissioned and tested between August and October. The wind farm is then expected to come fully online in November.
Lenalea will be capable of generating enough power for up to 20,000 Irish homes a year.
