Flexrack by Qcells LLC, an Ohio-based provider of solar mounting systems, part of South Korea’s Hanwha Group, said Tuesday it has supplied a 182-MW solar portfolio currently under construction in Canada.
The portfolio includes two fixed-tilt, bifacial solar panel projects — the 81-MWp Scotford project in Scotford, Alberta, which will be Canada’s largest behind-the-meter solar project and will power a global oil producer’s refinery complex, and the 101-MWp Saddlebrook project in Aldersyde, Alberta. Both are scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2023.
Flexrack by Qcells partnered on the sites with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company Alltrade Industrial Contractors Inc. Alltrade senior director Kevin Ritzmann said Alltrade picked Flexrack due to its experience with weather-challenged solar projects in cold climates. “We first partnered with Flexrack on several projects in Ontario 12 years ago and we have always appreciated their ability to not only provide high quality mounting technology but also timely and thorough engineering expertise,” Ritzmann commented.
The 101-MW Saddlebrook project will be owned by a North American energy infrastructure company. The project secured funding from Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) to support the development of a solar generation facility combined with a flow battery energy storage system. Alltrade is building this project in a joint venture with SkyFire Energy Inc.
