US solar developer Silicon Ranch today said it will purchase an additional 1.5 GW of First Solar Inc’s (NASDAQ:FSLR) thin-film solar modules.

The deal builds on a 4-GW master supply agreement between the companies that was announced in April 2022 and then expanded by 700 MW in October 2022. These previous agreements will supply modules to Silicon Ranch projects through 2025, while the new transaction will deliver modules for projects in 2026 and 2027.

First Solar designed and produces its Series 6 Plus modules in the US. Nashville-based Silicon Ranch pointed out that through partnerships such as with First Solar and Nextracker, it is supporting domestic manufacturing and is also helping to decarbonise its supply chain.

First Solar in late 2022 announced plans to build its fourth US factory in Alabama, adding to its three sites in Ohio.
