June 15 (Renewables Now) – Italian oil and gas contractor Saipem SpA (BIT:SPM) on Tuesday said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with compatriot underground and special engineering company Trevi SpA to cooperate on foundation drilling solutions for offshore wind.

The companies will together develop a design of two drilling systems for large diameter holes to host offshore wind foundation piles. Their solution will identify the most appropriate drilling strategy and technology based on site-specific geotechnical and geophysical data.

The agreement also includes the possibility of jointly developing the drilling equipment to be operated by Saipem in the execution of wind projects, leveraging Trevi’s expertise in special foundation works.

Saipem said the MoU is in line with its 2022-2025 strategic plan as it seeks to strengthen its value proposition for the growing offshore wind market.
