RWE AG (ETR:RWE) said on Monday it has commissioned the 44-MW Puerta del Sol project, growing its solar business in Spain.

Located near Madrid in the Guadalajara province, the solar park is a sister project to Casa Valdes that the German energy group brought online at the start of 2023.

Puerta del Sol consists of about 100,000 bifacial solar modules to make the most of the Spanish sun. It brings RWE’s solar capacity in one of its “most promising growth markets” to more than 140 MW. The company is also in the commissioning phase of a 10-MW solar farm in the province of Badajoz and is poised to complete the Gazules 1 and Gazules 2 projects of 46 MW each in Andalusia by the end of 2023, increasing its solar capacity in Spain to 250 MW. In addition, RWE Renewables Iberia already operates 490 MW of installed onshore wind capacity in the country. RWE is also looking to develop floating offshore wind farms in Spain in partnership with Ferrovial.
