April 8 (Renewables Now) – German energy group RWE AG (ETR:RWE) on Thursday said it has signed an agreement on the grid connection of its 1-GW Thor offshore wind project with Danish grid operator Energinet.

To be located off the Danish west coast and become fully operational by 2027, the offshore wind farm will be the country’s largest so far.

Energinet will build two new electrical substations — a 220-kV station at the point of connection in Volder Mark and another 220-kV station as part of the 220/400 kV conversion of the existing 400-kV station in Idomlund. The two will be linked with 28 kilometres (17.4 miles) of underground cables.

Under RWE’s concession agreement signed with the Danish Energy Agency in January, the German company will construct and pay for the offshore high voltage system and will also pay for the onshore grid connection.
