November 1 (Renewables Now) – Russia and Iran, two countries that are currently the subject of external sanctions, could collaborate on the construction of renewable energy plants in the Western Asian nation.
The Russian government said in a press statement on Tuesday that it has discussed the potential involvement of local companies in the implementation of turnkey solar projects in Iran with a total installed capacity of at least 100 MW. These are expected to benefit from Russian export financing.
Furthermore, the two sides have considered the development of wind projects on the border with Afghanistan and on the Caspian coast of Iran.
The discussions took place on November 1 in Grozny at the 16th meeting of the Russian-Iranian commission on trade and economic cooperation. In addition to renewables, the two countries have agreed to develop cooperation in the field of oil, gas, nuclear energy, finance, insurance, customs, logistics and transit.
