Solar products maker Qcells, a subsidiary of Seoul-based Hanwha Solutions Corp (KRX:009830), today said its supplier Hanwha Advanced Materials Georgia (HAGA) will invest USD 147 million (EUR 135m) to build an advanced materials factory in Georgia.

The new plant in Cartersville, Bartow County will supply encapsulant film to the Qcells facility in the same town. HAGA will be the only manufacturer of solar encapsulants in the US. It will create more than 160 jobs and is expected to start production in June 2024.

The investment follows the passage of the Inflation reduction Act last year. It will support Qcells’ plans to establish a fully integrated solar supply chain in the US.

In January 2023, Qcells announced plans to invest USD 2.5 billion in the construction of an industrial complex for the production of solar ingots, wafers, cells and modules in Bartow County and the expansion of its solar panel facility in Dalton. The company aims to have 8.4 GW of solar panel production capacity in Georgia by 2024.

“Georgia is leading the nation in attracting next generation jobs,” Georgia governor Brian Kemp said in a statement. “Since we first welcomed Qcells to our state in 2018, we’ve announced more than 4,000 related jobs for hardworking Georgians,” he added.
