UK green hydrogen energy services company Protium today announced plans for a green hydrogen production facility in Lancashire in partnership with Budweiser Brewing Group.
The new facility would be located next to Budweiser’ Samlesbury brewery and provide hydrogen to help meet the brewery’s thermal demand, heating and transport needs. Protium intends to fund, build and operate the project, which is called Samlesbury Net Zero and targeted to come online at the end of 2025. After a consultation with local stakeholders, a planning application is expected to be submitted in the coming spring.

This will be Protium’s second hydrogen project with Budweiser, after the project at the Magor brewery in South Wales unveiled last year, and its third in the UK.
The Samlesbury Net Zero project is expected to save up to 11,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year.
Budweiser is part of Belgian company Anheuser-Busch InBev (EBR:ABI), or AB InBev.
