April 19 (Renewables Now) – US hydrogen solutions provider Plug Power Inc (NASDAQ:PLUG) has signed a deal with Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) for an option to supply liquid green hydrogen to power up to 9,500 lift trucks across distribution and fulfillment centres of the retailer in the US.
What is one of Plug’s first green hydrogen supply contracts calls for the delivery of up to 20 tonnes per day of liquid green hydrogen. Plug will use its liquid transport fleet, enabled by its recent acquisition of Applied Cryo Technologies, to deliver the green fuel.
The two companies have been partnering on hydrogen fuel cells at Walmart facilities starting with a 50-fleet pilot in 2012 and increasing this number to 9,500. The retailer’s step to adopt green hydrogen aligns with its goal of zero emissions by 2040.
Plug aims to achieve 70 tonnes per day of green hydrogen production by end 2022, 500 tonnes of daily production in North America by 2025 and 1,000 tonnes per day globally by 2028.
