August 16 (Renewables Now) – US distributed energy projects developer Pivot Energy has taken over Maryland-based community solar specialist SGC Power to pursue substantial growth over the years to come.

SGC Power identifies, develops and designs solar projects that produce long-term lease income for property owners. The firm has been involved in 2.8 GW of developments since its inception in 2008.

Pivot Energy noted that community solar is now the fastest growing segment of the solar industry and that 21 states and the District of Columbia currently have active programmes in this field. The company intends to provide SGC Power with its development expertise and long-term project ownership capabilities to help it set foot into new markets, it said.

Following the acquisition, the current team of SGC Power will continue to carry out day-to-day activities and the firm will operate as a business unit under the Pivot Energy brand.
