October 6 (Renewables Now) – Luxembourg-based metal and glass packaging supplier Ardagh Group SA is rolling out on-site solar installations across its three production facilities in the Netherlands.

The company on Thursday announced the start of construction for the projects at its Dongen, Moerdijk and Oss sites. The three projects will see the installation of about 24,700 panels that are expected to produce 12,677 MWh of electricity a year.

Ardagh engaged solar outfit Zoncoalitie to conduct assessment for the project and carry out a tender, which awarded the delivery of the installations to Dutch energy company Eneco.

The packaging firm said the Netherlands will be the first country where all of its metal and glass facilities will be supplied with on-site solar generation. The projects are part of Ardagh’s plans to use 100% renewable electricity by 2030. In Europe, five on-site solar projects, including also in Irvine, Scotland and Dublin, Ireland, besides the Netherlands, will allow it to replace 15,000 MWh of grid electricity, representing 1% of its total electricity consumption in the region.
