December 8 (Renewables Now) – Swedish renewables developer OX2 AB (STO:OX2) will build a 40-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in southern Sweden’s Smaland province, in proximity to two of the company’s ongoing wind projects.
To be located in tswhe village of Bredhalla, Uppvidinge municipality, the facility will deliver frequency regulation services to state-owned transmission system operator (TSO) Svenska Kraftnat, and will also provide load shifting to enhance the grid’s flexibility. Its commissioning is scheduled for the spring of 2024, OX2 said on Tuesday.
The installation will consist of 21 containerised battery units that will cover just over one hectare. The selected site is an area with low natural value. It is situated directly adjacent to a substation run by German utility E.on.
“The Bredhalla project provides increased security and flexibility for the electricity supply in southern Sweden,” said Michiel van Asseldonk, responsible for system services and energy storage at OX2.
