May 13 (Renewables Now) – Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) and France’s TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE) have teamed up to lodge joint bids in the tenders for two offshore wind farm sites in the 1.4-GW Hollandse Kust West (HKW) zone, located some 53 km (3 miles) off the Dutch coast, the companies said on Friday.
The partners added they aim to achieve net positive impact on biodiversity and the Dutch energy system. One of the tenders aims to encourage ecological innovation and the other system integration. As an integrated energy company in the Netherlands, TotalEnergies can contribute through its green energy and hydrogen investment plans to decarbonise its industrial activities in the Zeeland province.
According to the announcement, 600 MW of electrolysis capacity powered by the HKW wind farm could make Zeeland the largest hydrogen cluster in the world by 2027.
The tenders for both sites opened on April 14 and closed on May 12, with the winners to be announced after the summer.
