Danish clean energy group Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) said today it has inked a 150-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google to provide the tech giant with electricity from its 268-MW Helena wind farm in Bee County, Texas.

The 15-year PPA is Ørsted’s first agreement with Google in the US and the companies’ second globally.

The contracts support Google’s goal to operate on 24/7 carbon free energy by 2030.

Sana Ouji, energy lead at Google, explained that this target requires blending various resources to optimise for hourly production. “We’re excited to continue our partnership with Ørsted and add this wind project to our existing solar portfolio in ERCOT as we serve customers out of our Dallas cloud region,” Ouji added.

Helena wind farm was commissioned in the middle of 2022 and generates power for the South ERCOT service territory. It is part of the 518-MW Helena Energy Centre, which also includes a 250-MW solar project.
