“We are very pleased to be able to close a new PPA agreement that will enable us to deepen our presence in such an important market as the Chilean, which is so focused on making its energy generation mix increasingly cleaner”, said Carlos Ortiz, country manager of Opdenergy in Chile.
Currently, Opdenergy has 121MW solar power and 50MW wind power operational capacity installed in five plants in Chile. With this new project, Opdenergy will increase its installed capacity in Chile to about 279MW. Moreover, the Spanish IPP has more than 1GW of solar PV, wind and storage projects under development in Chile.
Additionally, Opdenergy currently has more than 2.7GW long-term PPAs contracted in Spain, Italy, Chile, Mexico and the US. The company secured US$252 million for two solar projects with a combined capacity of 260MWdc in the US earlier this month, and €128 million (US$135.5 million) for five solar PV plants with a combined capacity of 216MW in Spain.
PV Tech Premium also reported that Chile has established itself as a key PV market in Latin America thanks to some of the world’s highest solar irradiation levels – located in the northern regions of Antofagasta and Atacama – and its urgent need for homegrown energy resources.
