September 16 (Renewables Now) – Ocean Winds East LLC on Thursday said that the offshore wind project planned for the lease area that it secured earlier this year in the New York Bight will be called Bluepoint Wind.

Ocean Winds East is a partnership between Ocean Winds, which is a joint venture between EDP Renewables (ELI:EDPR) and Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), and infrastructure fund manager Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP). It won the 71,522-acre (28,944-ha) lease area with a potential to host up to 1.7 GW of offshore wind in February. This was as part of a record-breaking auction for six lease areas in the New York Bight.

The developer announced the name of the project as it is set to start a stakeholder and public engagement process. It said it is working with local and regional partners to ensure benefits for neighbouring communities and stakeholders such as investment in historically disadvantaged communities, environmental protection and workforce development.
