October 12 (Renewables Now) – The largest solar power plant in North Macedonia – a 17-MW facility in the municipality of Sveti Nikole – commenced commercial operations this week.
Slovenian electricity supplier GEN-I announced on Monday that its group president, Igor Koprivnikar, joined North Macedonian prime minister Dimitar Kovacevski and economy minister Kreshnik Bekteshi in Skopje to mark the event.
The company secured the right to build the plant in 2019 along with a 50-year lease in Azambegovo. There, it installed 31,772 solar modules on 300,000 square metres of land.
The construction of the facility was finalised in September, months before the deadline set by the government, GEN-I said. The solar park is now able to produce some 25,000 MWh of electricity per year, corresponding to the annual consumption of more than 5,500 local homes.
