A group of municipal and private stakeholders on Thursday inaugurated a 2.55-MWp distributed generation (DG) solar plant in Manaus, the capital of the Brazilian state of Amazonas.

The project is the result of a partnership between the Manaus City Hall, local water and sewerage utility Aguas de Manaus, solar developer Expertise Energia and Brasol, a solar DG firm that is part of German industrial group Siemens AG (ETR:SIE).

The new plant is the largest of its kind in the whole of Brazil’s North region, the Manaus City Hall said. It is spread over a 20,000-sq-m (215,278 sq ft ) area, consisting of eight inverters and 4,960 solar panels capable of generating 3.7 GWh per year, the city said.

Initially, the DG system will supply power for 55 operational units of Aguas de Manaus.
