June 1 (Renewables Now) – The upward trend in the German market for home solar storage systems is expected to continue unabated throughout 2022 with the number of new installations reaching the record 200,000 units as demand for small photovoltaic (PV) systems of up to 20 kWp is on the rise.

The total number of home solar storage systems in the country is projected to grow to 667,000 this year and reach one million in 2024, market intelligence institute EUPD Research said in a study published on Wednesday.

Around 155,000 new solar storage systems with a combined capacity of 1.5 GWh were set up at German homes last year, bringing the total number of such installations in operation to 467,000, according to EUPD Research.

Thanks to the positive framework conditions and the growing installation numbers, Germany is Europe’s largest market for home storage solutions.

The growth of the solar storage market is coupled with the brisk demand for small PV plants which is fuelled by high electricity prices. The Bonn-based institute forecasts that 2.48 GW of new PV systems of up to 20 kWp will be deployed across Germany in 2022 compared with 1.76 GW installed in the prior year.
