Ncondezi Energy Ltd (LON:NCCL), the developer of a 300-MW coal-based thermal power plant and mine project in northern Mozambique, said today it has identified potential for a grid-scale solar-plus-storage facility at the same project site in Tete Province.
“Preliminary study work has confirmed that the project site area has strong potential for a solar project plus battery storage with good solar conditions and multiple access points to the Mozambique grid. Given the large project concession area, the solar project would be deliverable without compromising the main project,” stated chief executive Hanno Pengilly.
The CEO went on to say that Ncondezi will be able to use existing project studies to fast track a development programme.
In the meantime, the company continues to work with strategic partner China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to gain further clarity on the financing of the main project.
