Spanish utility Naturgy Energy Group SA (BME:NTGY) has commissioned two wind farms with a combined capacity of 19.95 MW in the Canary Islands, the company said on Wednesday.
The Aguimes wind farm features three turbines totalling 10.75 MW, while Camino de la Madera is equipped with four turbines with 9.2 MW of capacity between them. Both wind farms were installed on the island of Gran Canaria.
Naturgy invested roughly EUR 20.5 million (USD 22.3m) in the projects, with Aguimes requiring an investment of EUR 10.6 million and Camino de la Madera close to EUR 10 million.
Naturgy now has 12 wind farms in the Canary Islands and is preparing to add solar plants as well. The company plans to finalise five solar photovoltaic projects in the municipality of Aguimes by the end of 2023, it said.
Naturgy was also successful in special wind and solar auction programmes designed for the Canary Islands, supported with contributions from the European Regional Development Fund.
