December 28 (Renewables Now) – Spanish utility Naturgy Energy Group SA (BME:NTGY) announced today that it has started operations on two solar farms of 50 MWp each in Andalusia, southern Spain.

The plants, known as Tabernas I and II, required an investment of more than EUR 52 million (USD 55.2m).

Naturgy said that the two facilities should be able to generate over 228 GWh per year, enough to meet the annual demand of 65,400 homes.

Apart from the Tabernas plants, Naturgy’s renewables portfolio in Andalusia includes also three wind farms in operation in the region with a combined capacity of 81 MW — Los Llanos (33.4 MW), El Tesorillo (26 MW) and Rabia (21.7 MW).

The utility noted that it is currently working on six other solar projects in the same region, with a combined capacity of 240 MW.
