July 8 (Renewables Now) – Greek industrial group Mytilineos SA (FRA:MYH) on Friday officially initiated the construction of its 75-MW Wyalong solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in New South Wales, Australia.
Building works are expected to take around six months.
To be installed at West Wyalong, in the state’s Riverina region, the complex will span some 260 hectares of land. It will be run under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with NBN Co, a publicly-owned corporation of the Australian government that will build the country’s national broadband network. The contract will back the entity’s goal of procuring 100% renewable power by December 2025.
The plant’s future output is expected to supply around 27,000 local homes.
Mytilineos acquired the Wyalong project at end-2020 from Aussie renewables developer ESCO Pacific. The scheme is part of the Greek firm’s roughly 750-MW Aussie solar portfolio, which includes projects in various stages and 118 MW in operation.
