The Superintendency for the Development of the Northeast (Sudene), a Brazilian governmental agency, has granted the sixth part of a loan package for the construction of 210 MW of solar power projects in the northeastern state of Ceara.
Lightsource bp is the developer behind the solar schemes, which are expected to start power generation next year, the agency said on Monday.
The BRL-47.74-million (USD 9.6m/EUR 8.8m) financing comes from Sudene’s northeast development fund, also known as FDNE. The realisation of the five solar parks requires BRL 782.65 million in investments and BRL 422.95 million of it will be provided by the fund. So far, FDNE has extended BRL 355.15 million in six tranches.
Once up and running, the solar assets should be capable of generating around 460,000 MWh per year, enough to meet the demand of some 212,000 local homes.
