German energy storage developer Kyon Energy said Thursday it has obtained approval for the construction of a 58-MW/116-MWh storage facility in Diesdorfer Wuhne, on the outskirts of Magdeburg in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt.
Construction is planned to get underway as early as the start of 2024, with commissioning expected by 2025.
Once completed, the installation will help stabilise the grid frequency and optimise grid usage, facilitating the integration of more renewables.
“In the transition to a cleaner energy system, battery storage plays a critical role in stabilising the power grid and ultimately enabling a more independent and sustainable system,” said chief executive Florian Antwerpen.
Munich-based Kyon Energy focuses on large-scale battery storage systems. It developed and sold with partners 121 MW of battery systems last year and currently has a project pipeline of over 7 GW.
