Japanese oil and natural gas producer Inpex Corp (TYO:1605) on Thursday said it has acquired a 16.7% stake in the 950-MW Moray East offshore wind farm in the UK.

The stake was acquired by Inpex Renewable Energy Europe Ltd via a deal with Diamond Generating Europe Ltd, a UK-registered subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corp (TYO:8058).

Located off the northeastern coast of Scotland, the wind farm has been in operation since April 2022. The project is owned by Ocean Winds, a joint venture between EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) and Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), with a 56.6 % stake, China Three Gorges Corp with 10% and Diamond Green Ltd with 33.4%.

In 2022, Inpex Renewable also acquired holdings in two Dutch offshore wind farms — a 50% stake in Luchterduinen and a 15% stake in Borssele III/IV — from Diamond Generating Europe BV, a Dutch-registered subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corp.

Inpex says it will accelerate its offshore wind activities, leveraging its experience in the construction and operation of offshore floating facilities.
