December 30 (Renewables Now) – Swiss-based Hitachi Energy has been picked to provide electrical systems infrastructure for the MFW Baltyk II and MFW Baltyk III offshore wind projects in the Polish Baltic Sea with a combined capacity of 1,440 MW.

Under the contract, awarded by the projects’ developers — Norway’s Equinor ASA (NYSE:EQNR) and Polenergia SA (WSE:PEP) — and announced today, Hitachi Energy will be tasked with the electrical system design for the whole wind farm.

Hitachi Energy will also deliver the power control system, telecom network, all high voltage equipment at the offshore and onshore substations, as well as the whole onshore substation. The contract further includes interface work at the grid connection in Slupsk.

This is the first contract after Equinor and Hitachi Energy signed a strategic collaboration agreement in November.

MFW Baltyk II and III secured contracts for difference (CfDs) in May 2021 and are expected to reach final investment decision in 2024.

In February 2022, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) was selected as the preferred turbine supplier for the projects.
