April 18 (Renewables Now) – Greencells is scoping a development pipeline of solar projects in Canada with a combined capacity of about 1 GWp together with UK-based firm IndyGen Utility Ltd.

The German solar developer and EPC services provider announced earlier this month the establishment of a joint venture with IndyGen, an integrated solar developer. They are negotiating the acquisition of a 75% stake in the 200-MWp Estuary solar project in Alberta, which is expected to reach a ready-to-build status by the end of this year, and working on other projects in the 1-GWp pipeline.

Greencells has also bought 25% in another Albertan solar project, of 258 MWp, which is expected to reach commercial operations in 2023. This bring its development pipeline in Canada to 1.3 GWp, complementing the company’s European business.

In 2021, Alberta installed 250 MWp of solar, accounting for nearly 87% of all solar capacity additions in Canada for the year. In 2022, total installations are expected to surpass 1 GWp, Greencells CEO Andreas Hoffmann said.
