May 5 (Renewables Now) – Sustainable infrastructure investor Greenbacker Renewable Energy Company LLC (GREC) on Monday said it has acquired utility-scale solar projects totalling 50 MW, all located in Greene County, in the state of New York.

The vendor is Chicago-based renewables developer Hecate Energy LLC, which previously sold two 20-MW solar projects to GREC that are scheduled to go online in late 2022. Greenbacker also has agreements with Hecate to develop more solar projects in New York.

The newly acquired developments are expected to become operational in 2023, delivering enough power for an estimated 9,500 homes. They all have long-term contracts with investment-grade off-takers.

Greenbacker says it has a portfolio of over 2.6 GW of assets including projects that are yet to be constructed.
