November 4 (Renewables Now) – The governments of Germany and Egypt have agreed to intensify their cooperation in the production of green hydrogen ahead of the COP 27 climate summit that starts on Sunday in Sharm El-Sheikh.

A declaration of intent was signed on Thursday that should pave the way for a structured dialogue with companies and other stakeholders to support the mutual exchange of technological expertise, harmonise the regulatory framework and clarify financing issues.

The agreed partnership is aimed at supporting the implementation of projects for the production, processing, use and transport of green hydrogen as well as promoting the development of a green hydrogen sector.

The two countries will also seek to promote joint investment and research projects related to hydrogen and its processing, transport and use.

With the energy partnership, Germany will support Egypt in accelerating the transition from fossil fuels to climate-friendly energy, thus ensuring that exports of green hydrogen from the North African country will help it cover part of its needs in future.

Apart from green hydrogen, the countries signed a second declaration for the supply of liquefied natural gas to Germany to further diversify the European country’s energy imports.
