Gentari Sdn Bhd, the clean energy platform of Malaysian state-owned oil and gas company Petronas, and BMW Malaysia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on green mobility and renewable energy deployment.
Gentari, though its wholly-owned subsidiary Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, and the Malaysian representative of the premium German automaker aim to partner in areas such as the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, including at BMW dealerships, and different EV fleet solutions in the Malaysia market. The companies also plan to offer value-added services for BMW EV owners, such as EV charging subscription plans and electric forecourts. Additionally, they are exploring the deployment of joint renewable energy infrastructure.
The MoU was signed in Kuala Lumpur by Shah Yang Razalli, deputy chief executive of Gentari and chief executive of Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, and Hans de Visser, managing director of BMW Group Malaysia.
Shah Yang Razalli highlighted Gentari’s capabilities in renewable energy, which will contribute to establishing a comprehensive green electron value chain.
Since its launch in June 2022, Gentari has, through its affiliated entities, deployed over 160 charging points in Malaysia and over 170 charging points in India. It targets capturing over 10% market share of charge points and vehicle-as-a-service (VaaS) offering in key markets in Asia Pacific.
