GE Grid Solutions will supply 380 kV T155 gas-insulated substations for the Neom green hydrogen plant which is currently under construction in northwestern Saudi Arabia.
The contract was awarded by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) which is in charge of establishing the renewable energy generation, storage and grid infrastructure for the project, GE Grid Solutions said last week.

GE’s solutions will help ensure uninterrupted operation at the hydrogen plant and the wind and photovoltaic plants, which will power the electrolyser, and will also raise power supply reliability of the primary grid.
The business, which is part of GE Vernova, will design, manufacture, supply, and oversee the installation and commissioning of the 92 bays for the hydrogen plant. The equipment is being manufactured in France.
The Neom site, to be located at Oxagon in the province of Tabuk, will have the capacity to produce 600 tonnes of green hydrogen daily, with commissioning planned to take place by the end of 2026.
The green hydrogen production at Neom will be powered by up to 4 GW of solar and wind capacity. L&T will engineer, procure, and build a 2.2-GWac solar park, a 1.65 GW wind generation balance of plant and a 400-MWh battery.
The investment value of the whole Neom project totals USD 8.4 billion (EUR 7.79bn).
