Global renewables developer-operator Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has refiled its application for environmental approval for the 316.8-MW Loncualhue wind farm project situated in the Chilean regions of Maule and Nuble.
The firm initially submitted the USD-340-million (EUR 313.5m) project for the environmental review in April this year, but later voluntarily withdrew the application following an exchange with regional authorities.
Last week, the authorities agreed to look into the cross-regional project again. According to the new filing, FRV has kept the main features of the wind farm unchanged. Loncualhue will still have 44 wind turbines of up 7.2 MW each as originally planned.
The company plans to carry out all the works on private property in the commune of Cauquenes in Maule. Some of the environmental aspects of the project will extend their area of influence to the region of Nuble, FRV said.
The company expects the wind farm to generate around 761.9 GWh of electricity per year once fully operating.
Construction is expected to begin in January 2025.
