November 7 (Renewables Now) – French firm Phynix, which bills itself as Europe’s first independent green hydrogen producer, has cut turf on the 10-MW Vitale electrolysis plant in the town of Alcazar de San Juan, Spain.
The same town, located south of Madrid, is also the location of a 70-MW electrolysis project that Phynix hopes to see construction-ready within a year, the company said at the Vitale ground-breaking ceremony on Friday.
According to the regional government, the French hydrogen producer is investing EUR 24 million (USD 24.1m) in the project.
The Vitale plant will be capable of producing 4.13 tonnes of green hydrogen per day after a gradual ramp-up. It is expected to start production in 2024.
Phynix expects to find hydrogen customers in the local industry, logistics, transport and mobility sectors in the Madrid region, and other consumers via natural gas networks, the firm said.
The other project in Alcazar de San Juan is Barataria, and it is currently in the permitting process. Phynix plans to start construction of the Barataria plant next year and start hydrogen production in 2025. That electrolyser, Phynix says, will produce 10,250 tonnes of hydrogen per year.
Phynix, styled as PHYnix, is a subsidiary of EverWatt, French independent producer of decentralised renewable energy. Paris-based investment fund Transition Evergreen SA (EPA:EGR) is EverWatt’s largest shareholder.
