April 12 (Renewables Now) – US solar panels maker First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) announced on Tuesday that it has signed a master supply agreement (MSA) under which it will deliver 4 GW DC of its advanced thin-film PV modules to independent power producer Silicon Ranch.
The Nashville-based customer will receive the modules from 2023 to 2025 to use them in its projects in the US, and enjoy the benefit of access to First Solar’s advanced cadmium telluride (CadTel) thin-film technology as it evolves over the life of the agreement, the manufacturer said.
The arrangement also includes a recycling component to ensure that end-of-life CadTel modules from Silicon Ranch’s projects are processed further into useful materials. According to First Solar, its recycling programme can recover around 90% of CadTel material for use in the manufacturing of new modules, and salvage aluminium, glass and laminates from old panels.
The MSA expands the relationship between First Solar and Silicon Ranch, which began in 2015 with the supply of panels for the Aerojet Rocketdyne solar farm in Arkansas. Since then, the partnership has taken the companies to over 30 projects in the US totalling more than 1 GW, First Solar adds.
