December 14 (Renewables Now) – Dominican power producer Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina SA (EGE Haina) has signed the definitive concession agreement with the local national energy commission CNE for the 90-MWp Esperanza solar project.
EGE Haina said on Monday the construction of the photovoltaic (PV) farm will require an investment of around USD 94 million (EUR 89m).
Located in a 180-hectare (444.8 acres) area in the country’s Valverde province, Esperanza will feature 166,670 bifacial solar panels. EGE Haina estimates the PV plant should be capable of generating 200,000 MWh per year, enough to meet the power demand of some 83,000 local households.
The concession is granted for a period of 25 years, according to CNE’s archive.
Edward Veras, CNE’s executive director, noted that Esperanza will help the country to achieve its goal of covering 25% of the national demand with renewable energy by 2025 and 30% by 2030.
