June 21 (Renewables Now) – EDF Renewables UK has begun site preparation and entered the construction phase of two solar projects in England and Wales with a combined capacity of roughly 100 MW.
The company announced on Monday that it expects to laud first power from the two photovoltaic (PV) parks in the last quarter of this year. Namely, these are the 49.9-MW Bruwell plant in South East Cambridgeshire, in the East of England, and the 49.9-MW Porth Wen facility on the Anglesey island, off the northwestern coast of Wales.
Once up and running, each of the two solar plants is expected to generate electricity that will be equal to the annual power consumption of 9,500 homes. “The sites get plenty of sunshine and are near to a grid connection, making them excellent locations for solar,” Ben Fawcett, EDF Renewables UK’s Head of Solar.
EDF Renewables UK acquired the two-project portfolio in March 2021 when both schemes had permits in place. It then said that the Welsh project is cleared to include a battery storage system.
In addition to Burwell and Porth Wen, EDF Renewables has 3 GW of solar projects under development and planning, the company noted.
