June 13 (Renewables Now) – EDF Renewables North America has secured 1 GW of solar and battery storage capacity in New York’s latest solicitation for large-scale renewable energy certificates (RECs).
The awards come from three solar photovoltaic (PV) projects totalling 940 MW, each with 20 MW of co-located battery storage, the company said on Friday, adding that the secured capacity accounts for almost 40% of the total awarded capacity in the solicitation.
Specifically, the tender will support the construction of EDF Renewables’ 350-MW Columbia solar park in Herkimer County, across a 2,000-acre site. The Ridge View complex, another PV farm of 350 MW, is planned to be installed in Niagara County, while the 240-MW Rick Road solar plant will be built to generate electricity in St Lawrence County.
The plants are scheduled to go online by the end of 2025 and cover the consumption of more than 243,000 average New York homes when operating at full capacity, EDF Renewables said.
The New York solicitation, touted as the state’s largest land-based renewable energy procurement to date, resulted in the selection of 22 large-scale projects, representing 2.4 GW of solar and roughly 160 MW of battery storage capacity. Their implementation is estimated to bring more than USD 2.7 billion (EUR 2.57bn) in private investment to New York.
