July 7 (Renewables Now) – Red Rock Power Ltd and Irish utility ESB, developers of the Inch Cape offshore wind farm in Scottish waters, today confirmed they have won a Contract for Difference (CfD) for the 1,080-MW first phase of their project.

In a statement, project director Adam Ezzamel said that this is an important milestone for the development and added the following: “Our focus now moves to the contracting of key work packages and progressing towards a final investment decision by the middle of next year.”

Earlier on Thursday, the UK government announced nearly 11 GW of clean energy awards in the fourth allocation round of its CfD scheme, including almost 7 GW of offshore wind. According to the tender results, Inch Cape Offshore Ltd has been awarded a contract for the 1,080-MW Phase I of the project at a strike price of GBP 37.35 (USD 44.37/EUR 43.59) per MWh.

The delivery year for that phase of the Inch Cape wind park is 2026/27. It envisages the installation of up to 72 turbines off the Angus coast, with connection to the National Grid at Cockenzie, East Lothian.
