November 9 (Renewables Now) – Brazil’s power sector regulator Aneel on Tuesday approved the remaining three winning renewable projects from the A-4 tender held on May 27, 2022, for a combined capacity of some 19.4 average megawatts (MWa).
The new approvals were granted to two small hydropower plants (HPPs) and one biomass-fired scheme.
The contracted energy is aimed at supplying the demand of local power distributors Cemig, Coelba and Light, according to the watchdog.
A-4 allocated close to 950 MW of power, with biomass accounting for the biggest part of 409 MW. The awarded projects represent future investments of more than BRL 7 billion (USD 1.34bn/EUR 1.34bn).
Aneel previously noted that the power supply under the power purchase agreements (PPAs) secured in the tender is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026.
