UK solar developer Boom Power today said it has secured a 237.5-MW AC import and export grid connection at Thorpe Marsh Power Station, Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England.

The company plans a solar-plus-storage project there and is exploring land within the local area and conducting feasibility studies to inform the scheme.

Given its scale, this will be a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) and will be assessed by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. It will be Boom Power’s second NSIP proposal after the 400-MW East Yorkshire solar farm project.

In addition, the developer unveiled plans for a standalone battery of around 660 MWh, Carrog Battery Energy Storage System, located near Cemaes in Anglesey, Wales that would connect directly to the grid.

The company also said that the Judicial period for its 49.9-MW Kenley solar project in Hull, which has obtained planning consent, passed with no comment.

Boom Power currently has five projects in the planning system totalling over 100 MWh of storage and over 150 MW of solar.
