BlueFloat Energy has deployed a floating LiDAR off the coast of Hsinchu, Taiwan, where it is planning to develop the 1-GW Winds of September floating wind farm project.
France-based firm Akrocean is providing the LiDAR service, using its Windsea Stage 2 system. The LiDAR will enable the gathering of local metocean data, including wind, wave, and current, to inform the floater and mooring system design and help refine the wind resource assessment, BlueFloat Energy said.
Winds of September is the first project for BlueFloat in Taiwan after entering the market in 2022. The Spain-based offshore wind specialist said that it is now conducting environmental impact assessment and engineering studies and engaging the supply chain in an effort to prepare the project for bidding on zonal development in Taiwan.
The plan is to site the Winds of September wind farm around 25 kilometres (15.5 miles) off the coast of Hsinchu City at a water depth of 64 metres to 96 metres (210 ft-315 ft). The floating wind is expected to cover an area of around 125 square kilometres (48.3 sq miles).
Danish engineering consultancy K2 Management (K2M) has been retained as the owner’s engineer for the project.
